Role Summary
We are seeking an Occupational Therapist to support children with developmental and intellectual disabilities in a consultative, community-based setting. This role focuses on evaluations, functional assessments, adaptive equipment recommendations, and program support rather than traditional ongoing therapy services.
The ideal candidate enjoys working independently, partnering with interdisciplinary teams, and providing clinical recommendations that enhance independence, participation in daily activities, sensory regulation, and overall quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations focusing on activities of daily living, fine motor development, sensory processing, self-care skills, and functional independence. Some hands-on evaluations are required.
- Assess the need for adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and environmental modifications to support participation and independence.
- Develop detailed written reports and clinical recommendations to support individualized service planning.
- Review medical, educational, and therapy records to inform evaluations and recommendations.
- Provide consultation and guidance to case managers, families, caregivers, and service providers regarding adaptive strategies, sensory needs, and functional skill development.
- Evaluate barriers to independence and recommend interventions, supports, and resources to maximize participation in home, school, and community settings.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and case conferences to support coordinated care planning.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with program and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Active Occupational Therapist (OT) license in the State of California.
- Experience working with children with developmental disabilities.
- Strong evaluation, clinical reasoning, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage a flexible, community-based caseload.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with interdisciplinary teams and families.
- Willingness to travel locally to complete evaluations in home and community environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with pediatrics, school-based settings, or complex diagnoses such as autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, developmental delays, sensory processing challenges, or other neurodevelopmental conditions.
- Familiarity with adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and environmental modification recommendations.
- Experience conducting sensory, fine motor, adaptive functioning, and activities of daily living assessments.
- Prior experience in a consultative or assessment-focused role.
