Role Summary

The Family Nurse Practitioner will provide comprehensive primary care and preventive health services to uninsured adults and other eligible patients within the West Tennessee public health system.


The position includes wellness and contraceptive care, communicable disease screening and treatment, patient education, and immunizations in accordance with Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendations.


The FNP will follow established health department guidelines, clinical protocols, and program recommendations while participating in county and regional activities as requested.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive primary care clinical services to uninsured adult patients.
  • Provide wellness, preventive health, and contraceptive care to eligible patients.
  • Perform clinical screening, evaluation, and treatment of communicable diseases, including sexually transmitted infections and Hepatitis C.
  • Promote disease prevention and improved health outcomes through patient education and counseling.
  • Administer and support immunizations in accordance with ACIP recommendations.
  • Develop patient-centered treatment plans and encourage appropriate follow-up care.
  • Follow established health department guidelines, clinical protocols, and program recommendations.
  • Maintain professional standards and comply with continuing professional development directives established by the Tennessee Board of Nursing.
  • Collaborate with county and regional healthcare teams to ensure coordinated, high-quality patient services.
  • Participate in county- and regional-based activities as requested by supervisors.
  • Travel to alternate health department locations as needed to support clinical operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree with a Family Nurse Practitioner specialty focus.
  • Current, valid, and unrestricted Tennessee Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license.
  • Current, valid, and unrestricted Tennessee Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Current national certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner through a recognized credentialing organization, such as the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Association of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB).
  • Valid Tennessee driver's license.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel occasionally to alternate health department locations.
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care.
  • Ability to follow established clinical guidelines, protocols, and professional practice standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience providing primary care services.
  • Experience in community health, public health, or outpatient clinical settings.
  • Experience providing preventive and contraceptive healthcare services.
  • Experience with communicable disease screening, treatment, and patient education.
  • Interest in serving uninsured and medically underserved populations.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM CST

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (7.5 working hours per day)

Weekends: No scheduled weekend shifts
